🚽 What Does It Teach?

The checklist walks girls through the toileting and wiping process, including:

• Managing a dress, skirt, shorts, or pants
• Pulling clothing down when needed
• Sitting and relaxing on the toilet
• Using the toilet
• Getting an appropriate amount of toilet paper
• Starting the toilet paper at the vulva
• Wiping front to back toward the anus
• Reaching around the back to finish wiping as needed
• Dropping used toilet paper into the toilet
• Repeating the wiping steps if they still feel wet or sticky

Each step includes a simple visual, short direction, and check-off circle so kids can see what they’re doing, what’s next, and when they’re finished.

🧠 Teaching Front-to-Back Wiping Visually

One of the biggest differences between this checklist and a generic potty routine is that it doesn’t simply say “wipe.” It visually breaks down front-to-back wiping into smaller steps, giving kids a concrete way to understand a skill that can be difficult to explain with verbal directions alone.

For visual learners and neurodivergent kids especially, being able to see what an instruction means can make learning a new self-care routine much easier to understand.

💛 How to Use It

Introduce the checklist during a calm moment rather than for the first time when your child urgently needs to use the bathroom. Go through the pictures together and explain each step. During bathroom routines, keep the checklist somewhere visible and use it to guide your child through the sequence.

As they become more familiar with the routine, begin reducing verbal prompts and encourage them to check the visual: “What comes next?”

The goal isn’t to expect immediate independence—it’s to give your child a consistent tool they can reference while learning the skill.
