Regulation Activities
Give kids a chance to regulate before frustration turns into a bigger moment.
The Regulation Activities posters are designed to be used when you start noticing the early signs that your child is becoming agitated, frustrated, restless, or overwhelmed.
Rather than waiting until they're fully dysregulated, show your child the poster and let them choose an activity that feels good to their body in that moment.
How They Work
When you notice your child beginning to struggle:
- Pause the current task.
- Let your child choose an activity from the poster.
- Spend about 5–10 minutes doing the activity.
- When they're ready, return to the previous task.
Giving the child a choice allows them to have some control over how they regulate, rather than an adult deciding what they need to do.
Three Different Activity Options
Regulation Activities #1, #2 & #3 each contain a different selection of regulation activities, giving families more options to find strategies that work well for their child.
Use one favorite poster consistently or keep multiple versions available so your child can choose from a wider variety of activities.
These are great for homework, routines, chores, transitions, after-school time, classrooms, or other situations where you notice your child starting to become overwhelmed.
